High After The Dentist

Fernando Bustos

Commentary

One of the funniest videos that I’ve seen was this YouTube video about a young boy who had gone to the dentist. When he went to the dentist he had to inhale nitrous gas which caused him to get stoned. The boy’s father decided it was a funny idea to video tape his intoxicated son. The recording showed the boy tripping out, he was seeing things, screaming and it was just too funny to keep watching, but there I sat and continued to laugh. The boy said “is this real life?” That line was the funniest because it was as if he was in another world, it’s not everyday you see a 7 yr old in that way. “I feel funny, why is this happening to me?” David the boy said. It was weird to see a young boy say these words and the look on his face that he had no idea where he was. I might not know what it’s like to be high on nitrous, but I could see how the boy was lost and out of it by the many looks on his face. He was staring into oblivion saying that he only had two fingers, the young boy was stoned on gas and seeing things that he had never seen before. The video reminds me of how people I know react to comedy, people fall over, cry out loud and sometimes just go out of it. It is always good to have a laugh about random things, and serious things too. So go out there and watch a video or do something random.

Farewell Natasha Richardson

News

By: Marlon West

Natasha RichardsonNatasha Richardson actress and mother of 2 kids passed away March 18, 2009. According to people .com, Natasha Richardson was at Quebec’s Mont Tremblant resort in Canada when she had a ski accident. While falling she suffered severe brain injury and died to days later. She is leaving behind her career and more importantly her husband and two sounds. She played a Broadway in 1993 Anna Christie. She also made a starring act in the Parentrap with Lindsey Lohan in 1998. Since then she has been in several movies. Her recent movie was wild child in 2008. Her husband says that she still looks incredibly beautiful in her casket and she will be missed as well as loved. Medical experts added that 1.4 million people in the U.S. suffer from brain injuries each year or it could have been suffered a subdural memotomna the breaking of the blood vessel inside the brain. I’ts unpredictable how young actors and actresses keep dying, everyone should have their right to live their life. Unfortunate stories like this reinforce that you don’t really know what you have until it’s gone

In every generation of Hip-Hop the dancing changes. In the 8o’s the dancing was more jumping around side to side with some style. Vanilla Ice and Mc Hammer for example had their own crazy dances that I don’t think I could keep up with. That style is considered old and out of style but it’s a classic, I like it at least. But even if that Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer were competing they had the same style of dancing but it was different. In the end every one knows who won that some what of a beef.

So this is a video of MC Hammer at the 1991 Grammy awards with Vanilla Ice in the audience and i think we all know how that went. not such a good time for Vanilla Ice. But anyways MC Hammer is crazy for his dancing!! Who goes up in front of thousands of people in a silver futuristic suit and sing Cant Touch this!!! He is Crazy!! but i have to give it up to him, he did his thing and loved every second of it, and thats what counts.

HAHA anyways besides those two guys beefing. Now here is the part where the dancing changes just about a year or two later it changed big time. In this video we see will smith hitting those 90’s moves. which are still sort of the same as the Vanilla Ice and MC Hammer ones but with a more flamboyant style like the color of the clothes haha.

So i was chilling the other day and i was you tubing and i realized the similarities and thought of blogging about it.

MVP NBA 08-09

The NBA most valuable player candidates are Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Dwayne wade. I think Lebron James aka “the king” should be MVP.He averages 28.3 points, 9 rebounds, and 7.2 assists per game. Kobe Bryant averages 28 points per game, he also brings his team from the bottom to the top in most game, with the Lakers having the best record in the league. Chris Paul aka “cp3”, averages 21.4 points and 2.8 steals pre game. And Dwight Howard aka “d12”, also with an average of 21 points, and 2.9 blocks per game. And finally Dwayne wade who averages 29.7 points per game. My pick is Lebron James because he is unpredictable and very entertaining . He is a team player, and has a great personality, he loves where he’s at and keeps everyone on their toes. He is a nice guy and a player that a coach would want to work with .he is the future of the NBA.

Rising of Rose

Commentary

By: Dishan Lowe

Up in coming rookie of the year

Up in coming rookie of the year

Derrick rose was the number one pick in the 2009 NBA draft. The point guard out of the University of Memphis was selected by the Chicago bulls. He is my pick for rookie of the year. The Chicago native is playing in his hometown but he seems to be dealing with the pressure well. He was the nation’s top high school point guard in 2007. He was Illinois Mr. Basketball in 2007. He is the skills challenge champion at the 2009 NBA all-star weekend beating Devin Harris, mo Williams, and tony parker. He is averaging 16 points per game. In his first week he pulled a Michael Jordan and scored 26 points. Derrick rose has come to the NBA and let all the other rookies know that he is going to be on top out of the gate. He is averaging 3.6 rebounds and 6.3 assists per game. He is a person that can keep his game face on until he leaves the court so it looks to reporters and photographers like he is not happy when he is, he is someone that can show his feelings when he gets comfortable where he is. Derrick rose is a man that you can depend on if your starting point guard is out. He fights as hard as he can to help not only himself look good and his team as well. He can be very laid back and show no emotions. Derrick rose is my favorite rookie and espn.sports.go.com will back me on saying that not only is he a great basketball player but he is also very intelligent. Also he does not struggle with his perimeter shots and he has not suffered any injuries. Im not saying that he is a superhero and can’t mess up or get hurt, I’m saying at this moment nothing is going bad for him. He needs to work on his defense more and when he does he will be one of the greatest that has ever played.

Cynthia Maxwell: Youth radio presentation of sound

2/20/09

BLOG

Today at youth radio we, the winter core class, were introduced to Cynthia Maxwell who works at Apple to create applications and specializes in sound development.  During the presentation she mentioned that with every sound there’s a specific equation to make that tone. I’m only in the 11th grade and my favorite subject is math, but when she showed me what that equation looked like, I didn’t have a clue about what it meant. Luckily I was interested enough to ask if she could break it down and explain it to me after her presentation had ended.  Another thing that she mentioned in the presentation was that she used to work for NASA, and for anyone that’s a pretty huge accomplishment. She inspired me to apply for mathematics in college, something I’d never even thought I would ever consider.

Cynthia Maxwell

Review

By: Miguel Ojeda

Cynthia Maxwell’s job is very interesting. At first I had no clue what she was talking about or what her work was about. As she started to explain more in detail about what exactly she does it made sense. It was weird and new but it was cool. Creating a software to make new sounds based on new shapes and what you can do with these shapes is out of this world. I was amazed when she took out her Iphone and started making sounds based on how she physically moved the phone. I highly respect her work and it’s something I will be looking more into.

Teen Pregnancy

Round Table

By Sarah Hamik

It’s normal in our society to have sex at a young age. It’s more likely that teens will have sex when their intoxicated because it causes them to be attracted to the opposite sex. When you’re under the influence teens tend to want sex more than care about their safety. According to womenshealthchannel.com, approximately one-third of young women in the United States become pregnant during their teens. More than 80% of teen pregnancies are unintended and unintentional. I think that teens should be more responsible about having sex and should always be prepared for the outcome if they were not prepared. A lot of my friends are usually only half ready when having sex and end up asking me two weeks later to buy them a pregnancy test. A lot of times pregnant girls can look to the media for suggestions about alternatives for their pregnancy. They could put it up for adoption like in the movie, Juno, or they could keep the baby like they did on the TV show called “Secret life of an American Teenager”, or they could have an abortion like Kyra from the movie “Coach Carter”. Even though teens have all these choices, it still shouldn’t lead them to get pregnant unintentionally.

What’s in the”Classic”Formula?

Commentary

By:Tiara Lindsey

What makes a classic a classic? Is it the time and place where you were when you heard that beat that rocked your world? Do you remember the first time you heard it? That feeling, that rush? What does it take to get that feeling back? Or what’s in it?! My favorite classic right now is: “ain’t no half steppin” by Big Daddy Kane. The first time I heard it, I was inside, on a sunny day and I was feeling hella lazy but as soon as that beat dropped, I wanted to make moves. Why is that? The reason that classics are classics to me are usually based on my mood. I’ll skip through songs on my iPod and stop at the song that seems to match my heart rate. The songs that are considered classics to “o.g.’s” or the “older crowd” would be from artists like Marvin Gaye, Teddy Pendegrass, or Barry white. The newer crowd may consider classics today as…well I can’t even say that there are any classics today, because “a classic has to withstand the test of time, right?” I take all kinds of music into consideration; a classic for me in the grunge-indie category would be “smells like teen spirit” by Nirvana. That song gives me a different feeling, its Kurt Cobain’s voice and the way he says he’s worst at what he does best which to me screams something louder. But what’s in both of those songs that make me want to keep them on repeat? What will bridge the gap? Maybe none of these questions will be answered simply because what ever ingredient is in the classic formula is lost. Modern day music to me is “shinaz” or artificial coolness that lacks culture and experience.

Stage Performer

COMMENTARY

BY:KWAME GRANT

IF YOU ARE A PERFORMER, LIKE ME, THAN KNOWING HOW TO PERFORM ON STAGE IS VERY IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL TO A GREAT PERFORMANCE. HERE ARE SOME KEY RULES YOU NEED TO KNOW, WHILE ON STAGE. THE FIRST RULE IS BEING ABLE TO MOVE. IT’S NOT FUN OR ENTERAINING TO SEE A PERFORMER WHO STANDS THERE WITH THE MIC IN THEIR HAND. BUT TOO MUCH MOVEMENT WILL MAKE YOU LOOK CRAZY SO, I AM SAYING MOVE EASY AND FLOW WITH YOUR SONG.THE SECOND RULE IS HAVING EYE CONTACT. MAKE SURE YOU ARE CONNECTING WITH YOUR AUDIENCE. YOU WANT THEM TO FEEL LIKE THEIR PART OF YOUR PERFORMANCE. DON’T FOCUS ON ONE AREA OR ON ONE PERSON. YOU HAVE A WHOLE CROWD TO PLEASE. KEEP A GOOD CONNECTION WITH HE AUDIENCE.THE THIRD RULE IS TO KEEP ENERGY UP. MAKE SURE THE CROWD IS HYPED AND FEELING IT. DON’T BE BORING. KEEP IT LIVE AND DON’T LOSE THEIR ATTENTION. TO BECOME A GOOD STAGE PERFORMER, THESE ARE SOME KEY RULES TO FOLLOW. KEEP IT COOL LIKE KWAME AND YOU TOO CAN BE A GREAT STAGE PERFORMER.
